After the journey of orthodontics is finished a lot of patients next step is getting the brightest smile with whitening procedures. Some patients want to enhance their new smile with other facial rejuvenation procedures, such as Botox.

What is Botox?

Botox is a non-surgical treatment where prescription medicine is injected into the muscles which can help you get noticeable results and still look like yourself. There are three mechanisms of action of Botox. Only one works on muscles, the other two act on pain.

Aesthetically the patient is often concerned with lines on the face, ie. unwanted vertical frown lines (11’s), horizontal forehead lines, nasolabial folds, and radiating crows feet. Botox relaxes the muscles and diminishes the lines on the face. Therapeutic treatments with Botox include headaches, myofascial pain, migraines, and trigeminal neuralgia.

Botox treatments can take as little as 20 minutes or as long as an hour depending on what you and your doctor have decided is the best treatment. Botox starts to work within 24 to 48 hours. A majority of people see significant improvement after 7 days, with results continuing to improve for up to a month.

The average fee for Botox injections for the upper face is approximately $500 -$700. Depending on the provider and location a single unit of Botox runs anywhere from $12 – $20 a unit. Minor procedures usually involve at least 40 units and can go to over 100 units for extensive improvements. Botox treatment results usually last three to eight months. Your results may vary.
